A TRAVEL GUIDE FOR CAPPADOCIA
What is it known for?
Hello there! Today I want to talk about one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. I was in Cappadocia for 3 days and busy with enjoying myself. Let’s start with some classic information about there. Cappadocia is a semi-arid region in central Turkey and is most known for its “Fairy Chimneys.” Fairy Chimneys are cone-shaped rock formations located in Monks Valley, Cappadocia as a consequence of erosion. People used to live inside these rock formations by carving to turn them into a home. Apart from Fairy Chimneys, the rocky substructure of Goreme had played an important role in building underground cities where the refugees had lived their whole life by carving these rocks and building houses, churches, wineries, meeting rooms, dormitories, and even governmental buildings. ( I was shocked when I had seen that they even made a kitchen counter to put the freshly cooked meals… I mean it’s purely genius and shows the proof of how tidy they were) These underground cities made by Hittites saved a lot of Christian lives during wartime. You have the chance to explore these unique cities in Cappadocia. It is a UNESCO Heritage site converted into a museum and is now under the protection of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey. Wandering around the underground city is a unique experience to explore the history visually. Observing the shapes and icons put on the walls lets you understand the living conditions and mindsets of those natives who had lived decades ago as it made me imagine how their daily life was. It was enlightening I can say. You will definitely touch the hands of history here!
What to do in Cappadocia?
After visiting Underground City, sightseeing in Pigeon Valley is a must! The breathtaking scenery of the valley with pigeons flying over you is worth seeing. It is way more beautiful in winter season since I was also able to watch those pigeons with some snowy background. As a piece of interesting information, natives used to carve the walls of their caves out of pigeon stool to strengthen them and use it as the fertilizer for the plants throughout history. That’s why pigeons have been meaning a lot to the natives of Cappadocia. There is also an opportunity to feed them. Feed them, get on your back, and watch the lovely show of these beautiful creatures. If you ask me, those pigeons got hip to be fed more each time!
When you move to the Red Valley, you may ask yourself: What does this place look like? The answer is the Grand Canyon (Arizona). Yes! You might consider this valley as a smaller version of the Grand Canyon. Red Valley is also known as Rose Valley among natives because the rocks are red-colored. This valley offers the opportunity to hike over the rose-colored track. It is guaranteed to be an amazing experience for hiking lovers. (Since I am one of them)
START A CORE MEMORY!
Cappadocia is a place of wonderful things. It’s climate, natural buildings, and habitat for a wide range of animals. Apart from all of these, experiencing Hot Air Balloon must be on your bucket list when you visit Cappadocia. It might be the most satisfying experience you will ever have! Balloon rides are operated in the morning while the sun starts to show its face. Even if you wake up before sunrise, you will be well-rested and energetic thanks to the cave rooms. Sleeping in cave rooms provides a healthier sleep experience with air–humidity balance. Even you will be surprised how relaxing your sleep will be. Losing your connection to the boring, gloomy city weather with small houses and even smaller rooms will make you feel like a human again. I am sincere with my words and this is the truth! Having a break from the city freshens you up. Getting up to get the chance of watching over the idyllic scenery of Cappadocia hundred meters high during sunrise will be engraved in your memory.
As my last words, I want to say that if you have a chance for a holiday and think about having this holiday in Turkey, you must add Cappadocia to your list of locations you must see at least once in your life. I had this experience with Roadrunner Travel and all the service was so smooth and all the people who assist me were quite communicative and solution-oriented. Thanks to them for letting me have this experience. I am more than glad! Take care of yourselves, adios!
